Indications

Piroban Ointment 2% is indicated for:

• Impetigo (bacterial skin infection)
• Infected cuts, wounds, and abrasions
• Secondary bacterial infections of eczema
• Folliculitis (infected hair follicles)
• Localized skin infections caused by susceptible bacteria

Mechanism of Action

Mupirocin works by inhibiting bacterial isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, an enzyme essential for protein synthesis in bacteria. This prevents bacterial growth and replication, leading to elimination of infection and promoting skin healing.

Dosage and Administration

• Use only as prescribed by a physician
• Apply a thin layer to the affected area
• Usually applied 2–3 times daily
• Clean and dry the area before application
• Avoid covering with airtight dressings unless advised
• Wash hands before and after use
