Proceptin 40 mg/vial is an advanced proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat a variety of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. It is highly effective in reducing gastric acid secretion and is indicated for the treatment of duodenal and gastric ulcers, NSAID-induced ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), severe reflux esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and Helicobacter pylori-associated peptic ulcers. It can also be used prophylactically to prevent acid aspiration during surgery.
Proceptin contains Pantoprazole Sodium, which works by selectively inhibiting the hydrogen-potassium ATPase enzyme system (H+/K+ ATPase) in gastric parietal cells. This results in a potent and long-lasting reduction of gastric acid secretion. The onset of antisecretory action occurs within one hour, peaks at two hours, and the effect may last up to 72 hours. Upon discontinuation, normal acid secretion gradually resumes over 3–5 days.
Proceptin 40 mg/vial is available as a lyophilized powder for intravenous injection or infusion, making it ideal for patients who cannot take oral medications, such as those with severe esophagitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, or during perioperative care.

Proceptin 40 mg/vial is indicated for:
Duodenal and gastric ulcers, including those induced by NSAIDs
Prevention of NSAID-associated ulcers in high-risk patients
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including long-term management
Severe reflux esophagitis with ulcers
Dyspepsia caused by gastric acid
Prevention of acid aspiration during general anesthesia
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (ZES)
Helicobacter pylori eradication as part of combination therapy with antibiotics
Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI)
Pantoprazole Sodium in Proceptin inhibits the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system in gastric parietal cells, suppressing acid secretion at its source. This results in:
Rapid reduction of gastric acidity
Healing of acid-related mucosal lesions
Long-lasting acid suppression for up to 72 hours
By controlling gastric acid, Proceptin effectively alleviates symptoms, promotes ulcer healing, and prevents recurrence in chronic gastrointestinal conditions.
Oral Therapy (if applicable):
Duodenal ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks
Gastric ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 8 weeks; severe cases may require 40 mg daily
GERD: 20–40 mg daily for 4–8 weeks, maintenance 20 mg daily
ZES: 60 mg daily, adjusted individually up to 120 mg
Intravenous Therapy:
Reconstitute 40 mg lyophilized powder with 10 ml water for injection
Administer IV injection slowly over 2–5 minutes or IV infusion over 20–30 minutes
IV infusion: Dissolve in 100 ml of 0.9% saline (use within 12 hours) or 5% dextrose (use within 6 hours)
Prophylaxis of acid aspiration: 40 mg IV one hour before surgery
Pediatric Use:
Children >1 year with severe reflux esophagitis: 10–40 mg once daily depending on weight
May increase plasma levels of warfarin, phenytoin, and diazepam, requiring dose adjustments
No significant interaction with theophylline, propranolol, or antacids
Known hypersensitivity to Pantoprazole or any components of the formulation
Proceptin 40 mg/vial is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects include:
Nausea
Abdominal pain or cramping
Dizziness
Headache
Rare hypersensitivity reactions
Classified as Pregnancy Category C by the FDA
Epidemiological studies suggest no harmful effects on pregnancy or fetal health
Safety during breastfeeding is unknown; discontinuation of nursing is recommended if therapy is necessary
Rule out gastric malignancy before initiating long-term therapy for ulcers, as acid suppression may mask symptoms
Monitor patients for signs of allergic reactions or severe adverse effects
Store in a dry place, below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
