Conlax Oral Solution 3.35 gm/5 ml contains Lactulose, a synthetic disaccharide used primarily for the treatment of constipation and hepatic encephalopathy. It is an osmotic laxative that works gently and effectively by drawing water into the bowel, softening stools, and promoting regular bowel movements.
Constipation is a common digestive problem characterized by infrequent, hard, or painful bowel movements. Lactulose helps relieve constipation by increasing stool water content, making it easier to pass without straining. It is particularly beneficial for patients who require long-term management of chronic constipation.
In addition to its laxative effect, Lactulose plays a vital role in managing hepatic encephalopathy, a condition associated with liver disease. In this condition, toxins such as ammonia accumulate in the bloodstream due to impaired liver function. Lactulose helps reduce blood ammonia levels by converting it into a form that can be eliminated through the stool, thereby improving mental status and preventing complications.
Conlax Oral Solution has a pleasant taste and is suitable for adults, elderly patients, and children (under medical supervision). Its liquid form allows flexible dosing and easy administration.

Conlax Oral Solution is indicated for:
Chronic constipation
Occasional constipation
Hepatic encephalopathy
Conditions requiring soft stools (e.g., hemorrhoids or post-anal surgery)

Helps lower blood ammonia levels in liver disease
Suitable for long-term use under medical supervision
Lactulose is not absorbed in the small intestine. It reaches the colon unchanged, where it is metabolized by intestinal bacteria into organic acids. These acids increase osmotic pressure in the colon, drawing water into the bowel. This softens stools and stimulates peristalsis, promoting regular bowel movements.
In hepatic encephalopathy, the acidic environment created by lactulose in the colon converts ammonia into ammonium, which is less readily absorbed into the bloodstream and is excreted in stool.
The dosage of Conlax Oral Solution should be determined by a physician based on the patient’s condition and response to treatment. It is usually taken once or twice daily. The solution may be taken directly or mixed with water, fruit juice, or milk.
For hepatic encephalopathy, dosing is adjusted to achieve 2–3 soft stools per day as directed by a healthcare provider.
Shake well before use and measure the dose accurately using a measuring cup or spoon.
Use cautiously in diabetic patients, as lactulose contains sugars.
Excessive use may cause dehydration or electrolyte imbalance.
Not recommended in patients with galactose intolerance.
Consult a physician before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
