Dicephin Injection 1 gm/vial IM contains Ceftriaxone Sodium, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic widely used for the treatment of moderate to severe bacterial infections. It is administered by intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) injection under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional. Ceftriaxone is known for its broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and prolonged half-life, allowing convenient once or twice daily dosing in most cases.
Dicephin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) inside the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell lysis and death of susceptible bacteria. It is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, making it a preferred choice in hospital and community settings.
