Famomax Tablet 40 mg contains Famotidine, a potent and selective histamine H₂-receptor antagonist widely used in the management of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. It works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach, thereby helping to relieve symptoms such as heartburn, acid regurgitation, epigastric pain, and indigestion. Famomax Tablet 40 mg is particularly effective in promoting ulcer healing and preventing recurrence of acid-peptic conditions.
Due to its higher strength, Famomax 40 mg is commonly prescribed for moderate to severe acid secretion disorders and for patients requiring sustained acid suppression. It has a well-established safety profile and is suitable for both short-term treatment and maintenance therapy under medical supervision.

Each tablet contains:
Famotidine 40 mg
Therapeutic Class:
H₂-receptor antagonist (Anti-ulcerant)
Famomax Tablet 40 mg is indicated for the treatment and prevention of the following conditions:
Duodenal ulcer
Benign gastric ulcer
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Erosive esophagitis due to acid reflux
Zollinger–Ellison syndrome and other pathological hypersecretory conditions
Prevention of ulcer recurrence in high-risk patients
It is also used for nocturnal acid suppression in patients with persistent symptoms.
Famotidine acts by competitively blocking histamine H₂-receptors on gastric parietal cells. This inhibition leads to a marked reduction in basal, nocturnal, and stimulated gastric acid secretion. As a result, gastric volume and acidity decrease, allowing ulcerated and inflamed mucosa to heal.
Famotidine has a rapid onset of action and a prolonged duration, making once-daily dosing effective in many patients. Unlike some other acid-suppressing agents, it has minimal interaction with hepatic cytochrome P450 enzymes, which lowers the risk of clinically significant drug interactions. It does not affect gastric emptying or pancreatic enzyme secretion.

Dosage should be determined by the physician according to the clinical condition:
Duodenal or gastric ulcer: 40 mg once daily at bedtime
GERD: 40 mg once daily or divided into two doses if required
Hypersecretory conditions: Initial dose may be 20–40 mg every 6 hours, adjusted based on response
Famomax Tablet may be taken with or without food. Dose adjustment is recommended in patients with severe renal impairment.
Famotidine has a low potential for drug interactions. However:
Antacids may interfere with its absorption if taken at the same time
Drugs requiring an acidic gastric pH for optimal absorption may show reduced effectiveness
Patients should inform their physician about all concurrent medications.
Famomax Tablet 40 mg is contraindicated in patients with:
Known hypersensitivity to Famotidine or other H₂-receptor antagonists
Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation
Famomax Tablet is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects include:
Headache
Dizziness
Constipation or diarrhea
Rarely, fatigue, confusion (especially in elderly patients), skin rash, or transient liver enzyme elevations may occur.
Famotidine should be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if clearly necessary and prescribed by a physician, after careful evaluation of potential benefits and risks.
Gastric malignancy should be excluded before initiating therapy
Use cautiously in patients with renal impairment
Elderly patients may be more susceptible to central nervous system effects
