Cephradine is a bactericidal cephalosporin antibiotic that acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins, preventing proper formation of the bacterial cell wall and leading to cell lysis and death. Cephradine is stable against many beta-lactamases, allowing it to retain activity against a broad range of common pathogens. Following oral administration, it is well absorbed and distributes effectively into body tissues and fluids.
The dosage of Intracef Suspension 125 mg/5 ml depends on the patient’s age, body weight, severity of infection, and renal function.
The suspension should be reconstituted as directed before use
Shake well before each dose to ensure uniform distribution
Administer the prescribed dose at regular intervals
The full course of therapy should be completed to prevent recurrence of infection and development of resistance.
Intracef Suspension 125 mg/5 ml is contraindicated in patients with:
Known hypersensitivity to cephradine or other cephalosporin antibiotics
History of severe allergic reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics
Use with caution in patients with renal impairment; dosage adjustment may be necessary
Patients with a history of penicillin allergy should be monitored carefully due to possible cross-reactivity
Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms
Intracef Suspension is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects include:
Nausea
Diarrhea
Vomiting
Abdominal discomfort
Skin rash or allergic reactions
Most adverse effects are mild and reversible.
Caution is advised when used with:
Nephrotoxic medicines
Oral anticoagulants, which may require monitoring
Store the dry powder in a cool and dry place. After reconstitution, store as directed and use within the recommended time. Keep out of reach of children.
Intracef Suspension 125 mg/5 ml is a reliable and effective oral cephalosporin antibiotic, especially suitable for pediatric patients. Its broad antibacterial coverage, good tolerability, and convenient liquid formulation make it an important option for treating common bacterial infections.
