Laxol Oral Solution contains Lactulose, an osmotic laxative used for the treatment of constipation and hepatic encephalopathy. It works by increasing water content in the bowel, which softens stools and promotes regular bowel movements in a gentle and effective way.

Lactulose is a synthetic disaccharide that is not absorbed in the small intestine. Once it reaches the colon, it is broken down by gut bacteria into organic acids, which draw water into the bowel and soften stool consistency. This process helps ease bowel movements and provides relief from chronic constipation.

In patients with liver disease, Lactulose also helps reduce blood ammonia levels by trapping ammonia in the colon and promoting its excretion, thereby improving symptoms of hepatic encephalopathy.

Indications

Laxol Oral Solution is indicated for:

• Chronic constipation

How It Works

Lactulose works by drawing water into the intestinal lumen through osmotic action, softening stool and increasing bowel movement frequency. In the colon, it is metabolized into acids that lower pH and help convert ammonia into non-absorbable ammonium, reducing its absorption into the bloodstream.

Dosage & Administration

• Use strictly as prescribed by a registered physician.
• Usually taken once or twice daily, with or without food.
• Dose may be adjusted based on stool consistency and patient response.
• It may take 24–48 hours to show noticeable effect.

Possible Side Effects

Some patients may experience:

• Bloating
