Mayapill is a combined oral contraceptive (COC) tablet that contains Ethinyl Estradiol (0.03 mg), Levonorgestrel (0.15 mg), and Ferrous Fumarate (75 mg). It is primarily designed to prevent pregnancy while also providing iron supplementation to support women’s overall health and reduce the risk of iron deficiency anemia during the menstrual cycle.

Ethinyl Estradiol is a synthetic estrogen, while Levonorgestrel is a synthetic progestin. Together, they work synergistically to regulate the menstrual cycle and inhibit ovulation. Ferrous Fumarate replenishes iron stores, helping prevent anemia and associated symptoms such as fatigue and weakness.

Indications

Mayapill is indicated for:

• Prevention of pregnancy through hormonal contraception

• Regulation of menstrual cycles in women with irregular periods

• Reduction of menstrual cramps and associated dysmenorrhea

• Support of iron levels during menstruation to prevent iron deficiency anemia

Mechanism of Action

Ethinyl Estradiol + Levonorgestrel:

• Suppress ovulation by inhibiting the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)

• Cause changes in cervical mucus, making it more difficult for sperm to enter the uterus

• Alter the endometrial lining to reduce the likelihood of implantation

Ferrous Fumarate:

• Provides an essential source of iron to compensate for blood loss during menstruation

• Supports red blood cell formation and hemoglobin production

Dosage and Administration

• Take one tablet daily at the same time every day, preferably after a meal to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.

• Tablets should be taken in the order indicated on the blister pack for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day tablet-free interval or placebo days if provided.

• For missed doses:

  • If 1 tablet is missed, take it as soon as remembered and continue the next tablet at the regular time.

  • If 2 or more tablets are missed, follow the instructions in the leaflet and use additional non-hormonal contraception for 7 days.

• Start the first pack on the first day of the menstrual cycle or as advised by a healthcare professional.
