Clopidogrel is commonly prescribed to patients with a history of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), recent myocardial infarction (MI), recent stroke, or established peripheral arterial disease (PAD). It is also frequently used after coronary stent placement to prevent clot formation.

Indications

Pidogrel Tablet 75 mg is indicated for:

Dosage and Administration

• The usual recommended dose is 75 mg once daily.

• In acute coronary syndrome, an initial loading dose may be prescribed by a physician.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Take at the same time each day for optimal benefit.

Mechanism of Action

Clopidogrel is a prodrug that, after metabolic activation in the liver, selectively inhibits the P2Y12 ADP receptor on platelets. This prevents platelet activation and aggregation, thereby reducing the formation of blood clots in arteries.

The antiplatelet effect is irreversible and lasts for the lifespan of the platelet (approximately 7–10 days).
