Indications

Primace 5 mg Capsule is indicated for:

• Hypertension: To lower high blood pressure, either alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents

• Heart failure: As part of the long-term management of patients with symptomatic heart failure

• Post-myocardial infarction: To improve survival and reduce cardiovascular complications

• Prevention of cardiovascular events: In patients with established cardiovascular risk factors, such as diabetes or a history of myocardial infarction

• Diabetic nephropathy and chronic kidney disease: To slow the progression of renal impairment in patients with type 2 diabetes or proteinuric kidney disease

Pharmacology and Mode of Action

Ramipril is a prodrug converted in the liver to its active metabolite, ramiprilat, which inhibits the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). By preventing the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor, Ramipril promotes vasodilation, reduces aldosterone secretion, and decreases sodium and water retention.
