Progut Tablet 20 mg contains Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the production of stomach acid. It is widely used for the treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and dyspepsia. By controlling excess acid secretion, it helps relieve symptoms like heartburn, acid regurgitation, and stomach irritation while promoting healing of the gastric and esophageal lining.

Mechanism of Action
Esomeprazole is the S-isomer of omeprazole and works by irreversibly inhibiting the hydrogen-potassium ATPase enzyme (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells. This blocks the final step of acid production, leading to a sustained reduction in gastric acid secretion and allowing healing of acid-damaged gastrointestinal tissues.
