Indications

Prompton Capsule 20 mg is indicated for:

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

• Erosive or ulcerative esophagitis

• Gastric and duodenal ulcers

• Zollinger–Ellison syndrome and other hypersecretory conditions

• Eradication of Helicobacter pylori (in combination with antibiotics)

• Prevention and treatment of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers

Mechanism of Action

Rabeprazole belongs to the proton pump inhibitor class. It works by irreversibly blocking the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells. This enzyme is responsible for the final step in acid production. By inhibiting this process, rabeprazole significantly reduces gastric acid secretion, allowing inflamed or ulcerated tissues to heal and preventing further irritation.

The effect begins within one hour of administration and provides sustained acid suppression with once-daily dosing.

Dosage and Administration

• Usual adult dose: 20 mg once daily.
