Indications

Symbion Inhalation Capsule 200 mcg + 6 mcg is indicated for:

• Maintenance treatment of asthma in adults and adolescents

• Prevention of asthma symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness

• Maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

• Reduction of COPD exacerbations

It is prescribed when combination therapy is appropriate and when symptoms are not adequately controlled by inhaled corticosteroids alone.

Pharmacology

Budesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the airways. It works by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators, decreasing swelling and mucus production, and improving airway responsiveness.

Formoterol Fumarate is a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA) that relaxes the smooth muscles of the bronchi. It provides prolonged bronchodilation by stimulating beta2 receptors in the lungs, leading to improved airflow and sustained symptom control.

Together, Budesonide and Formoterol provide a complementary mechanism of action—controlling both the underlying inflammation and bronchoconstriction associated with asthma and COPD.

Dosage and Administration

The dosage should be individualized according to the severity of the condition and physician’s recommendation.

• Usually inhaled once or twice daily as prescribed

• Capsules are for inhalation use only and must not be swallowed

• Use with a compatible dry powder inhaler device

• Rinse mouth with water after inhalation to reduce the risk of oral candidiasis

Patients should use the inhaler regularly, even when asymptomatic, to achieve optimal control.

Precautions

• Not indicated for relief of acute asthma attacks
