• All types of epilepsy:

Pharmacology

Dosage and Administration

Adults:

• Initial: 600 mg/day in divided doses, preferably after food

• Titration: Increase by 200 mg/day every 3 days if required

• Maintenance: 1–2 g/day in divided doses (20–30 mg/kg/day)

Children (up to 20 kg):

• Initial: 20 mg/kg/day in divided doses

• Increased gradually based on response and plasma levels

Children (over 20 kg):

• Initial: 400 mg/day in divided doses

• Maintenance: 20–30 mg/kg/day

Bipolar disorder:

• Initial: 600 mg/day in 2–3 divided doses

• Maintenance: 1–2 g/day

Migraine prophylaxis:

• 400–600 mg/day, may require up to 1–1.5 g/day

Administration Tips:

• Swallow tablets whole; do not crush or chew

• Take after food to reduce gastrointestinal irritation

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Sodium Valproate

• Severe liver dysfunction or hepatic failure
