Pharmacology

Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a prodrug that is converted in the body to its active form, cefpodoxime. Cefpodoxime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, leading to weakening and rupture of the cell wall, ultimately causing bacterial cell death. It is bactericidal in nature and stable against many beta-lactamases produced by resistant bacteria.

Indications

Ximeprox DS Suspension is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:

• Upper respiratory tract infections such as pharyngitis and tonsillitis

• Lower respiratory tract infections including acute bronchitis and pneumonia

• Otitis media (middle ear infections)

• Sinusitis

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Urinary tract infections

It is particularly useful in pediatric patients where oral antibiotic therapy is preferred.

Dosage and Administration

The dosage of Ximeprox DS Suspension should be determined by the physician based on the child’s age, body weight, severity of infection, and renal function. The suspension should be prepared by adding the recommended amount of boiled and cooled water to the bottle and shaking well before use.
