Amloten Tablet 5 mg + 50 mg is a fixed-dose combination of Amlodipine Besilate and Atenolol, formulated to provide effective and sustained control of high blood pressure and angina. This dual-action antihypertensive medicine is particularly useful in patients who do not achieve adequate blood pressure control with single-drug therapy. By targeting different physiological pathways, Amloten helps improve cardiovascular stability and reduces the risk of serious heart-related complications.

Amlodipine Besilate USP: 5 mg
Atenolol USP: 50 mg
Dosage Form: Oral tablet
Calcium Channel Blocker + Cardioselective Beta-1 Adrenergic Blocker
Antihypertensive and Antianginal agent
Amloten Tablet 5 mg + 50 mg is indicated for:
Essential Hypertension, especially when monotherapy is insufficient
Chronic Stable Angina Pectoris
Patients requiring both blood pressure and heart rate control
Reduction of cardiovascular risks such as stroke, myocardial infarction, and other hypertension-related complications
Amloten Tablet combines two complementary antihypertensive agents. Amlodipine Besilate works by inhibiting calcium ion entry into vascular smooth muscle cells, leading to relaxation and dilation of peripheral arteries. This reduces systemic vascular resistance and effectively lowers blood pressure while maintaining steady blood flow.
Atenolol is a selective beta-1 adrenergic blocker that decreases heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output. It also suppresses renin release from the kidneys, contributing to additional blood pressure reduction.
The combined action results in enhanced antihypertensive and antianginal efficacy, improved myocardial oxygen balance, and sustained 24-hour control with once-daily dosing. The higher atenolol strength provides stronger heart rate control for patients who need more intensive therapy.
The usual recommended dose is one tablet once daily, or as directed by a physician.
The tablet should be taken orally with water, with or without food.
Dosage should be individualized based on patient response and clinical condition.
Abrupt discontinuation, particularly due to the beta-blocker component, should be avoided.
Amloten Tablet is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects include:
Dizziness or lightheadedness
Fatigue or weakness
Peripheral edema
Bradycardia
Cold hands or feet
Gastrointestinal disturbances
Most side effects are mild and resolve with continued use. Medical advice should be sought if symptoms persist.
