Angist SR Tablet 2.6 mg contains Nitroglycerin, a well-known organic nitrate used for the prevention and long-term management of angina pectoris. The sustained-release (SR) formulation is designed to provide prolonged therapeutic action, helping to reduce the frequency of anginal attacks and improve exercise tolerance in patients with ischemic heart disease. Angist SR is intended for regular prophylactic use rather than immediate relief of acute chest pain.

Active Ingredient: Nitroglycerin
Strength: 2.6 mg
Dosage Form: Sustained-release oral tablet
Organic Nitrate
Antianginal and Vasodilator
Angist SR Tablet 2.6 mg is indicated for:
Prophylaxis of Angina Pectoris due to coronary artery disease
Long-term management of chronic stable angina
Prevention of exercise-induced or stress-related chest pain
Supportive therapy in ischemic heart disease
Nitroglycerin acts by releasing nitric oxide (NO) in vascular smooth muscle cells. Nitric oxide activates guanylate cyclase, leading to increased cyclic GMP levels, which cause relaxation of smooth muscle. This results in vasodilation of both veins and arteries.
Venous dilation reduces venous return (preload), decreasing myocardial oxygen demand, while arterial dilation lowers systemic vascular resistance (afterload). Additionally, nitroglycerin dilates coronary arteries, improving blood flow to ischemic areas of the heart. The sustained-release formulation ensures gradual drug release, maintaining effective plasma concentrations over an extended period and providing continuous angina prevention.
The usual dose is 2.6 mg two to three times daily, or as prescribed by a physician.
Tablets should be swallowed whole with water and not crushed or chewed.
To minimize nitrate tolerance, a nitrate-free interval may be recommended as part of the dosing schedule.
Common side effects associated with Angist SR Tablet include:
Headache, especially at the start of therapy
Dizziness or lightheadedness
Flushing
Hypotension
Palpitations
These effects are usually dose-related and may subside with continued use.
Not suitable for acute angina attacks; rapid-acting nitrates should be used for immediate relief.
Use with caution in patients with hypotension, anemia, or increased intracranial pressure.
Avoid abrupt postural changes to reduce the risk of dizziness or fainting.
Not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless advised by a physician.
Angist SR should not be used with phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (such as sildenafil or tadalafil), as this may cause severe hypotension. Caution is advised when used with other antihypertensive medications or alcohol.
