Covan Injection 500 mg contains Vancomycin Hydrochloride, a powerful glycopeptide antibiotic used to treat severe bacterial infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, including strains resistant to other antibiotics such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Vancomycin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death.
This injectable formulation is primarily used in hospital settings for serious infections where oral antibiotics are ineffective or cannot be used. Covan Injection is ideal for bloodstream infections, severe skin infections, bone and joint infections, endocarditis, and complicated respiratory infections caused by susceptible bacteria.

Each vial contains:
Vancomycin Hydrochloride 500 mg
Vancomycin Hydrochloride inhibits the formation of bacterial cell walls by binding to D-alanyl-D-alanine residues in peptidoglycan precursors. This prevents cross-linking of the bacterial cell wall, causing cell lysis and death. It is particularly effective against Gram-positive bacteria, including MRSA and Clostridium difficile (for parenteral use in serious systemic infections).
Covan Injection 500 mg is indicated for:
Severe Gram-positive bacterial infections
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections
Endocarditis
Septicemia and bacteremia
Severe skin, soft tissue, bone, and joint infections
Pneumonia caused by susceptible Gram-positive bacteria
Covan Injection is administered intravenously under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
The dosage is individualized based on infection severity, patient age, and kidney function.
Typically, the drug is given every 8–12 hours depending on the patient’s response and serum drug levels.
Infusion should be slow, usually over at least 60 minutes, to reduce the risk of infusion-related reactions.
Monitoring of renal function and serum vancomycin levels is recommended during therapy to ensure safety and effectiveness.
Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment or pre-existing hearing problems.
May cause infusion-related reactions such as “red man syndrome” if administered too rapidly.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: consult a healthcare professional before use.
Avoid concomitant use with other nephrotoxic or ototoxic drugs unless necessary and under supervision.
Redness, rash, or itching (“red man syndrome”)
Fever or chills
Nausea or vomiting
Nephrotoxicity (kidney injury)
Ototoxicity (hearing disturbances) in rare cases
Thrombophlebitis at injection site
Prompt medical attention is necessary if severe side effects occur.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place
Protect from light
Keep out of reach of children
Covan Injection 500 mg is an effective treatment for serious Gram-positive bacterial infections, particularly when resistant strains are involved. When administered under proper medical supervision, it ensures rapid and reliable infection control.
