Cozid Injection 1 gm/vial contains Ceftazidime Pentahydrate, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used for the treatment of a wide range of serious bacterial infections. It is administered parenterally (intravenously or intramuscularly) and is commonly used in hospital settings for moderate to severe infections caused by susceptible gram-negative organisms. Cozid Injection provides strong bactericidal activity and is particularly effective in resistant hospital-acquired infections.

Composition
Each vial contains:
-
Ceftazidime (as Ceftazidime Pentahydrate) 1 gm
Mechanism of Action
Ceftazidime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) inside the bacterial cell wall, blocking the final stage of peptidoglycan formation. This leads to weakening of the cell wall and ultimately bacterial cell death. It is especially effective against many gram-negative bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, making it valuable in serious systemic infections.
Indications
Cozid Injection 1 gm/vial is indicated for the treatment of infections such as:
-
Lower respiratory tract infections including pneumonia
-
Urinary tract infections (complicated and uncomplicated)
-
Skin and soft tissue infections
-
Bone and joint infections
-
Intra-abdominal infections (often in combination therapy)
-
Septicemia (bloodstream infections)
-
Meningitis caused by susceptible organisms
-
Hospital-acquired and ICU infections, including Pseudomonas infections
Dosage and Administration
-
Administered intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM) only under medical supervision
-
Dosage depends on infection severity, patient age, renal function, and clinical response
-
Common adult dosing ranges from 1 to 6 grams per day in divided doses
-
In severe infections, higher or more frequent dosing may be required
-
Dose adjustment is necessary in patients with renal impairment
-
Reconstitution should be done using sterile water for injection as per guidelines
Contraindications
Cozid Injection should not be used in:
-
Patients with known hypersensitivity to ceftazidime or other cephalosporins
-
History of severe allergic reactions to penicillins (cross-reactivity risk)
-
Neonates requiring strict sodium control without medical supervision
Side Effects
Possible side effects include:
-
Injection site pain or inflammation
-
Rash and allergic reactions
-
Diarrhea or gastrointestinal discomfort
-
Nausea and vomiting
-
Elevated liver enzymes
-
Blood disorders such as eosinophilia or leukopenia (rare)
-
Seizures in patients with renal impairment or high doses
Precautions
-
Use cautiously in patients with a history of penicillin allergy
-
Renal function should be monitored during prolonged therapy
-
Superinfection with non-susceptible organisms may occur with long-term use
-
Careful dose adjustment is required in kidney impairment
-
Should only be used under strict medical supervision in hospital settings
