Cozid Injection 250 mg/vial contains Ceftazidime Pentahydrate, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections. It is administered parenterally through intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) injection under medical supervision. This lower-strength formulation is especially useful for pediatric patients, dose titration, and treatment of mild to moderate infections where precise dosing control is required.

Composition
Each vial contains:
-
Ceftazidime (as Ceftazidime Pentahydrate) 250 mg
Mechanism of Action
Ceftazidime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) inside the bacterial cell wall, blocking the formation of peptidoglycan cross-links. This leads to weakening of the bacterial cell wall, resulting in osmotic instability and bacterial cell death. It is particularly effective against many gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Indications
Cozid Injection 250 mg/vial is indicated for the treatment of:
-
Pediatric bacterial infections requiring injectable antibiotics
-
Respiratory tract infections (mild to moderate cases)
-
Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
-
Skin and soft tissue infections
-
Ear, nose, and throat infections
-
Bone and joint infections (early or mild cases)
-
Intra-abdominal infections (as part of combination therapy)
-
Septicemia caused by susceptible organisms
Dosage and Administration
-
Administered only by IV or IM route under healthcare supervision
-
Dosage is individualized based on age, weight, infection severity, and renal function
-
Pediatric dosing is strictly weight-based and must be calculated by a physician
-
Adult dosing may be adjusted using multiple vial strengths depending on clinical need
-
Dose reduction is required in renal impairment
-
Reconstitution should be done using sterile water for injection as per standard guidelines
Contraindications
Cozid Injection should not be used in patients with:
-
Known hypersensitivity to Ceftazidime or other cephalosporins
-
Severe allergic reactions to penicillin-class antibiotics

-
Seizures in patients with renal impairment or overdose
Precautions
-
Use cautiously in patients with a history of beta-lactam allergy
-
Renal function monitoring is recommended during prolonged therapy
-
Dose adjustment is essential in kidney impairment
-
Long-term use may lead to superinfections with resistant organisms
-
Should only be used under strict medical supervision
