Dicephin Injection 2 gm/vial contains Ceftriaxone Sodium, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic widely used for the treatment of severe and life-threatening bacterial infections. It is administered intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM) under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional. Ceftriaxone is known for its broad-spectrum bactericidal activity and extended half-life, allowing convenient once-daily dosing in many clinical situations.
Ceftriaxone works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), preventing the formation of a stable bacterial cell wall and leading to the destruction of susceptible organisms. It is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, making it a dependable option in hospital settings for serious infections.
The 2 gm strength is particularly useful in severe infections, deep-seated infections, or conditions requiring higher antibiotic concentrations as determined by the treating physician.
