Edemide Tablet 20 mg+50 mg is a combination diuretic therapy that contains Furosemide 20 mg and Spironolactone 50 mg, formulated to provide effective fluid management while maintaining electrolyte balance. This tablet is commonly used to treat edema associated with heart failure, liver cirrhosis, kidney disorders, and other conditions involving fluid retention.
Furosemide, a loop diuretic, promotes the excretion of sodium, chloride, and water, leading to rapid reduction of fluid accumulation. Spironolactone, a potassium-sparing diuretic and aldosterone antagonist, helps prevent potassium loss and enhances sodium excretion. The combination provides synergistic diuretic effects, making it possible to manage edema effectively with a lower dose of loop diuretic, thereby reducing the risk of electrolyte disturbances.

Furosemide: 20 mg
Spironolactone: 50 mg
Edemide Tablet 20 mg+50 mg is indicated for:
Edema associated with congestive heart failure
Liver cirrhosis with ascites or peripheral edema
Nephrotic syndrome or chronic kidney disease causing fluid retention
Hypertension with fluid overload
As part of long-term diuretic therapy where potassium-sparing effects are required
Edemide Tablet works through a dual diuretic mechanism:
Furosemide (Loop Diuretic):
Inhibits the Na⁺-K⁺-2Cl⁻ symporter in the loop of Henle.
Promotes excretion of sodium, chloride, and water.
Reduces edema, blood pressure, and fluid overload rapidly.
Spironolactone (Potassium-Sparing Diuretic):
Acts as an aldosterone antagonist in the distal tubules.
Promotes sodium and water excretion while retaining potassium.
Helps prevent hypokalemia and maintains electrolyte balance.
This combination ensures effective fluid removal while protecting against electrolyte imbalance, making it safer for long-term use in susceptible patients.
Route: Oral
Dosage: As prescribed by a registered physician
The usual starting dose is one tablet once daily, preferably in the morning, to avoid nocturnal urination. The tablet should be taken with a full glass of water. Patients should maintain adequate hydration and monitor urine output, body weight, and blood pressure. Regular laboratory tests are recommended to assess electrolytes, kidney function, and liver function during therapy.
