Flubex Capsule 250 mg contains Flucloxacillin Sodium, a penicillinase-resistant penicillin antibiotic. It is primarily used to treat a wide range of infections caused by penicillin-resistant Staphylococci and other susceptible gram-positive bacteria. Flubex is especially effective in managing skin, soft tissue, bone, and respiratory tract infections where beta-lactamase–producing organisms are suspected.

Active Ingredient: Flucloxacillin Sodium
Strength: 250 mg per capsule
Beta-lactam antibiotic
Penicillinase-resistant penicillin
Flucloxacillin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, preventing the final cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains. This action weakens the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell lysis and death. Flucloxacillin is resistant to degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes produced by many staphylococcal strains, making it effective against penicillin-resistant bacteria.
After oral administration, flucloxacillin is moderately absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with better absorption when taken on an empty stomach. It is widely distributed in body tissues and fluids, particularly in skin, bone, and soft tissues.
Flubex Capsule 250 mg is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by flucloxacillin-sensitive organisms, including:
Skin and soft tissue infections (boils, abscesses, cellulitis, impetigo)
Bone and joint infections (osteomyelitis)
Respiratory tract infections
Ear, nose, and throat infections
Infected wounds and burns
Septicemia and other serious staphylococcal infections (as directed by a physician)
The usual adult dose is 250 mg to 500 mg every 6 hours, depending on the severity and type of infection.
Capsules should be taken on an empty stomach, preferably 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals, for optimal absorption.
Dosage in children and patients with renal impairment should be determined by a healthcare professional.
Known hypersensitivity to flucloxacillin or other penicillin antibiotics
History of flucloxacillin-associated jaundice or hepatic dysfunction
Use with caution in patients with liver disease or renal impairment
Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms
Patients with a history of allergy to beta-lactam antibiotics should be closely monitored
Common side effects may include:
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
Abdominal discomfort
Skin rash or itching
Rare but serious adverse effects include cholestatic hepatitis, allergic reactions, and antibiotic-associated colitis.
Store in a cool and dry place
Protect from light and moisture
Keep out of reach of children.
