Frutifol Oral Solution is a vitamin B preparation containing Folic Acid, an essential water-soluble vitamin required for DNA synthesis, red blood cell formation, and normal cellular growth. It plays a vital role in maintaining healthy erythropoiesis and preventing folate deficiency–related disorders. Frutifol is widely used in the management and prevention of megaloblastic anemia and other conditions associated with folic acid deficiency.

Frutifol is indicated for the treatment and prevention of folic acid deficiency conditions, including:
Megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency
Nutritional folate deficiency
Increased folate requirements during pregnancy and lactation
Anemia associated with chronic hemolytic states
Folate deficiency caused by malabsorption, chronic illness, or long-term drug therapy
Folic acid is biologically inactive and requires enzymatic conversion to its active forms, tetrahydrofolic acid and methyltetrahydrofolate, by the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR). These active folate derivatives are transported into cells via receptor-mediated endocytosis, where they participate in critical metabolic processes.
Active folates are essential for normal erythropoiesis, synthesis of purine and thymidylate nucleic acids, interconversion of amino acids, methylation of transfer RNA, and the generation and utilization of formate. In the presence of vitamin B12 as a cofactor, folic acid helps reduce elevated homocysteine levels by remethylating homocysteine to methionine through the action of methionine synthetase. This mechanism supports cardiovascular health and normal cellular function.
Adults:
The usual dose is determined by the severity of folate deficiency and the patient’s clinical condition. Dosage should be taken as directed by a registered physician.
Children:
The dose for children should be adjusted according to age, body weight, and clinical requirement, as prescribed by a healthcare professional.
Frutifol Oral Solution are intended for oral administration and may be taken with or without food.
No clinically significant drug interactions have been reported with Frutifol.
Frutifol is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity or previous intolerance to folic acid or any component of the formulation.
Frutifol is generally well tolerated. However, some patients may experience:
Mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea or abdominal discomfort
Rare hypersensitivity reactions
Adverse effects are usually mild and transient.

No special precautions are known. Frutifol is commonly used during pregnancy and lactation to meet increased folate requirements, under medical supervision.
Frutifol should be used with caution in patients with folate-dependent tumors.
It should not be used alone or with inadequate amounts of vitamin B12 in patients with undiagnosed megaloblastic anemia.
In vitamin B12 deficiency states, folic acid alone may improve hematological parameters but can worsen neurological complications, including subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord.
In elderly patients, a cobalamin absorption test is recommended before initiating long-term folate therapy.
Short courses of folate have not been associated with harmful effects.
