Hypnofast 15 mg/3 ml is a benzodiazepine-based sedative and hypnotic indicated for the short-term management of insomnia and sedation prior to surgical or diagnostic procedures. It acts on the central nervous system (CNS) to enhance the inhibitory effect of GABA, producing sedation, muscle relaxation, and anxiolysis.

Short-term treatment of insomnia
Premedication sedation for surgical or diagnostic procedures, including endoscopic and cardiovascular procedures
Induction of anesthesia in adults and children
Note: Use only under the guidance of a registered healthcare professional.
Benzodiazepine hypnotics
Benzodiazepine sedatives
Hypnofast binds to benzodiazepine receptors located on postsynaptic GABA neurons in the CNS, including the limbic system and reticular formation. By enhancing GABA’s inhibitory effect, Hypnofast increases chloride ion influx, leading to neuronal hyperpolarization. This stabilizes neurons, reduces excitability, and produces sedation, muscle relaxation, and anxiolytic effects. Its action is primarily mediated through the GABA-A receptor complex.
Oral Use:
Adults: 7.5–15 mg daily for insomnia
Elderly: 7.5 mg daily
Premedication: 7.5–15 mg orally, 30–60 minutes before procedure
Intravenous (IV) Use:
Endoscopic/Cardiovascular procedures:
Adults: 2.5 mg initially
Elderly/debilitated: 1–1.5 mg initially
Induction of anesthesia: 10–15 mg (0.07–0.1 mg/kg)
Intramuscular (IM) Use:
Adults: 0.07–0.1 mg/kg
Children: 0.15–0.20 mg/kg
Elderly/debilitated: 0.025–0.05 mg/kg
Rectal Use (children): 0.35–0.45 mg/kg, 20–30 min before anesthesia
Maximum duration: Short-term treatment; typically ≤2 weeks
Hypnofast may enhance CNS depression when used with:
Neuroleptics, antidepressants, sleep-inducing drugs
Analgesics, anesthetics, anxiolytics
Antiepileptics, sedative antihistamines
Severe respiratory insufficiency
Severe hepatic insufficiency
Myasthenia gravis
Sleep apnea syndrome
Known hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines
Daytime drowsiness, confusion, fatigue, headache, muscle weakness
IV/IM administration: respiratory depression, apnea, BP and pulse fluctuations
Rare: allergic reactions, paradoxical excitation
Avoid unless no safer alternative; may affect fetus
Excreted in breast milk; should not be used by nursing mothers
IV administration should be very slow
Use with caution in hepatic/renal impairment, elderly, debilitated, or epileptic patients
May potentiate effects of other CNS depressants
Severe overdose may cause coma, areflexia, respiratory depression, apnea
Treatment: supportive care and benzodiazepine antagonist (flumazenil)
Hypnofast potentiates GABA-A receptor activity, increasing chloride channel opening frequency, resulting in:
Sedation
Muscle relaxation
Sleep induction
Anesthesia and amnesia
Its receptors are mainly located in the CNS but also present in other tissues like skeletal muscle.
Protect from light and moisture
Store in a cool, dry place
Keep out of reach of children
