Hypnofast 5 mg/ml is a benzodiazepine-based sedative and hypnotic indicated for the short-term treatment of insomnia and for premedication before surgical or diagnostic procedures. Containing a highly potent benzodiazepine, Hypnofast acts on the central nervous system to produce sedation, reduce anxiety, induce muscle relaxation, and facilitate sleep. Its multiple routes of administration—including oral, intravenous, intramuscular, and rectal—make it versatile for both acute hospital use and controlled outpatient management.

Hypnofast 5 mg/ml is indicated for:
Short-term management of insomnia in adults
Sedation and anxiolysis prior to surgical or diagnostic procedures
Preoperative sedation in children via rectal or intramuscular administration
Sedation during endoscopic or cardiovascular procedures
Induction of anesthesia in adults and children
It is particularly useful when rapid onset and reliable sedation are required in a controlled medical setting.
Benzodiazepine Hypnotic
Benzodiazepine Sedative
Hypnofast 5 mg/ml binds to benzodiazepine receptors on GABA-A neurons in the CNS, including the limbic system and reticular formation. By enhancing the inhibitory effect of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), Hypnofast increases neuronal membrane permeability to chloride ions, causing hyperpolarization and reducing neuronal excitability. This mechanism results in:
Sedation and hypnotic effects
Muscle relaxation
Anxiolysis
Amnesia and anticonvulsant properties
Benzodiazepine receptors are stereospecific and modulate CNS excitability without directly acting on other neurotransmitter systems.
Short-term insomnia:
Adults: 7.5–15 mg orally per day
Elderly: 7.5 mg orally per day
Premedication (before procedures):
Adults: 7.5–15 mg orally 30–60 minutes prior
Children (rectal): 0.35–0.45 mg/kg 20–30 minutes before anesthesia
Intravenous administration:
Endoscopic/Cardiovascular procedures: Adults 2.5 mg; Elderly 1–1.5 mg
Induction of anesthesia: Adults 10–15 mg IV; Children 0.15–0.20 mg/kg IM; Elderly 0.025–0.05 mg/kg IM
Important administration notes:
IV doses should be administered slowly under close monitoring
Rectal administration is reserved for children when oral or IV routes are not suitable
Enhanced sedative effects with neuroleptics, antidepressants, analgesics, anesthetics, anxiolytics, antiepileptics, and sedative antihistamines
Additive CNS depression possible when used with alcohol or other sedatives
Severe respiratory insufficiency
Severe hepatic impairment
Myasthenia gravis
Sleep apnea syndrome
Hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines
Common side effects:
Drowsiness, confusion, fatigue, headache, and muscle weakness (usually resolve with continued use)
IV or IM administration may cause respiratory depression, apnea, and fluctuations in blood pressure or pulse
Avoid during pregnancy unless no safer alternatives are available
Excreted in breast milk; not recommended for nursing mothers
Monitor respiratory and cardiovascular function during IV administration
Use with caution in elderly or debilitated patients
Dose adjustment may be necessary in hepatic impairment
Hypnofast IV must be administered slowly to prevent adverse effects
May result in coma, areflexia, cardiorespiratory depression, and apnea
Flumazenil, a benzodiazepine antagonist, can reverse overdosage effects
Supportive care may include respiratory and cardiovascular monitoring
Protect from light and moisture
Store in a cool, dry place
Keep out of reach of children
