Intamycin Injection 80 mg/2 ml contains Gentamicin Sulfate, a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic used for the treatment of serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. It is formulated for parenteral administration and is commonly used in hospital and clinical settings where rapid and effective antibacterial action is required.
Gentamicin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, leading to bacterial cell death. Its bactericidal activity makes it particularly effective against severe infections, especially those caused by aerobic Gram-negative bacteria.

Active Ingredient: Gentamicin Sulfate
Strength: Equivalent to Gentamicin 80 mg per 2 ml ampoule
Aminoglycoside Antibiotic
Intamycin Injection is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe infections caused by gentamicin-sensitive bacteria, including:
Septicemia and bacteremia
Lower respiratory tract infections
Urinary tract infections
Skin and soft tissue infections
Intra-abdominal infections
Bone and joint infections
Gynecological infections
Serious neonatal infections
It is also used in combination with other antibiotics for the management of complicated infections and for empirical therapy in critically ill patients.
Intamycin Injection is administered by intramuscular (IM) or intravenous (IV) route. Dosage depends on the severity of infection, patient age, body weight, renal function, and clinical response. Dose adjustments are essential in patients with impaired renal function. Treatment should be initiated and monitored by a qualified healthcare professional.
Gentamicin exhibits rapid bactericidal action against a wide range of Gram-negative organisms, including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Proteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter species. It also has activity against some Gram-positive bacteria, particularly Staphylococcus species, when used alone or in combination therapy.
Renal function should be assessed before and during therapy.
Prolonged use may increase the risk of nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity.
Therapeutic drug monitoring is recommended for long-term treatment.
Use with caution in elderly patients and neonates.
Possible side effects include nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, vestibular disturbances, and neuromuscular blockade. Most adverse effects are dose-related and reversible when detected early.
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Pregnancy: Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
Lactation: Gentamicin is excreted in small amounts in breast milk; caution is advised.
