Ketomar 1 mg Tablet is a potent anti-allergic and anti-asthmatic medication designed to prevent and manage bronchial asthma and various allergic conditions, including rhinitis and conjunctivitis. It belongs to the class of Cromoglycate & related drugs and is particularly effective in stabilizing mast cells, reducing mediator release, and preventing hypersensitivity reactions.
Ketomar works by inhibiting the release of histamine, leukotrienes, prostaglandins, and other chemical mediators from cells involved in type-I allergic responses. Its unique mechanism not only prevents asthmatic attacks but also controls symptoms of allergies, providing sustained relief with minimal sedative effects when used as directed.

Ketomar 1 mg is indicated for:
Prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma
Symptomatic management of allergic conditions:
Allergic rhinitis
Allergic conjunctivitis
It is suitable for adults and children above 2 years under medical supervision.
Cromoglycate & related drugs
Ketomar 1 mg exhibits powerful anti-allergic activity through:
Histamine (H1) receptor blockade
Mast cell stabilization to prevent degranulation
Inhibition of platelet-activating factor (PAF)
Reduction of eosinophil chemotaxis and activation
This dual mechanism makes it effective in preventing asthmatic attacks and controlling allergic reactions while minimizing inflammation and hypersensitivity responses.
Adults:
1 mg twice daily with food
May increase to 2 mg twice daily in severe cases
Children above 2 years:
1 mg twice daily with food
For patients prone to sedation, start with 0.5–1 mg at night for the first few days
Elderly:
Same as adult dosage or as advised by a physician
Consistency is key for prophylactic efficacy, and prior treatments should be continued for at least two weeks after starting Ketomar to prevent exacerbation of asthma.
Oral antidiabetics: May cause reversible fall in platelet count; combination should be avoided
CNS depressants: Ketomar may potentiate sedative effects of alcohol, antihistamines, hypnotics, and sedatives
Known hypersensitivity to Ketotifen or formulation components
Concurrent use with oral antidiabetics (risk of platelet reduction)
Drowsiness (common at treatment initiation)
Dry mouth
Mild dizziness
These effects typically resolve spontaneously after a few days.
Avoid operating machinery or driving during initial treatment
Continue previous corticosteroid or ACTH therapy for at least two weeks
Supplement with antimicrobial therapy in case of intercurrent infections
Avoid alcohol and sedatives during treatment
Symptoms: Drowsiness, confusion, hypotension, bradycardia/tachycardia, dyspnea, convulsions, reversible coma
Management: Supportive and symptomatic treatment
Not recommended due to insufficient safety data
Use caution in nursing mothers and avoid chest area application
Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
