Kilbac 750 mg/vial is a broad-spectrum injectable antibiotic containing Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin. It is widely used for the treatment of a variety of mild to severe infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including β-lactamase–producing strains. Kilbac is suitable for both adult and pediatric patients and can be administered via intramuscular (IM) or intravenous (IV) routes.

Second Generation Cephalosporins
Kilbac 750 mg/vial is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by sensitive organisms, including:
Ear, Nose, and Throat Infections
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
Acute bacterial otitis media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis (β-lactamase producing strains), or Streptococcus pyogenes
Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae
Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
Pneumonia
Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
Secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis
Skin and Soft Tissue Infections
Caused by Staphylococcus aureus (including β-lactamase producing strains) or Streptococcus pyogenes
Urinary Tract Infections
Caused by Escherichia coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae
Bone and Joint Infections
Caused by Staphylococcus aureus
Sexually Transmitted Infections
Gonorrhoea caused by penicillinase-producing and non-producing strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Other Infections
Early Lyme disease (erythema migrans) caused by Borrelia burgdorferi
Surgical prophylaxis
Meningitis
Multidrug-resistant typhoid fever
Cefuroxime is a bactericidal antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. It has strong stability against bacterial β-lactamase enzymes, making it effective against many strains resistant to ampicillin and amoxicillin. Its broad antimicrobial spectrum covers both Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.
Parenteral Use
Adults
Standard dose: 750 mg IM or IV three times daily
Severe infections: Up to 1.5 g IV three times daily
Meningitis: 3 g IV three times daily
Gonorrhoea: 1.5 g IM as a single dose
Surgical prophylaxis: 1.5 g IV at induction of anesthesia
Children (above 3 months)
30–100 mg/kg/day in 3–4 divided doses
Meningitis: 200–240 mg/kg/day initially
Neonates
30–100 mg/kg/day in 2–3 divided doses
Dosage and duration depend on the severity and type of infection and should be determined by a physician.
750 mg IM: Add 3 ml water for injection
750 mg IV: Add 8 ml water for injection
1.5 g IV: Add 16 ml water for injection
The reconstituted solution should be administered slowly over 3–5 minutes. Freshly prepared solutions are recommended.

No clinically significant or potentially hazardous drug interactions have been reported.
Kilbac is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics.
Cefuroxime is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects include:
Skin rash
Gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea or nausea
Overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms with prolonged use
Most adverse effects are mild and transient.
Cefuroxime is classified as US FDA Pregnancy Category B. It should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. The drug is excreted in human breast milk; therefore, caution is advised when administered to nursing mothers.
Use with caution in patients receiving potent diuretics
Caution in patients with a history of colitis
Cross-reactivity may occur in penicillin-allergic patients, though it is uncommon
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Cefuroxime exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell lysis and death. Its resistance to β-lactamase enzymes enhances its effectiveness against resistant bacterial strains.
