Levofloxacin works as a bactericidal agent, killing bacteria by inhibiting enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair, ensuring rapid resolution of infection. The 750 mg formulation is particularly suited for serious infections or infections caused by resistant bacteria, providing a higher, effective systemic dose.

Each tablet contains:
Levofloxacin Hemihydrate 750 mg
Levofloxacin belongs to the fluoroquinolone class and works by:
Inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for DNA replication and repair
Disrupting bacterial protein synthesis and replication
Causing bacterial cell death, leading to rapid resolution of infection
This mechanism ensures broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against common pathogens such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and Chlamydophila pneumoniae. Its unique mode of action also helps in minimizing cross-resistance with other antibiotic classes.
Leo Tablet 750 mg is indicated for:
Severe respiratory tract infections, including community-acquired pneumonia, acute bacterial sinusitis, and exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
Complicated urinary tract infections and pyelonephritis
Skin and soft tissue infections caused by susceptible bacteria
Complicated gastrointestinal infections, such as infections caused by Salmonella or Shigella species
Cases where lower-dose antibiotics are insufficient or resistance is suspected
Adults: 750 mg orally once daily, or as prescribed by the physician based on infection severity
Tablets should be taken with or without food, swallowed whole with a full glass of water
Maintain adequate hydration during therapy to support kidney function
Complete the entire prescribed course, even if symptoms improve early, to prevent recurrence and antibiotic resistance
Dose adjustment is required in patients with renal impairment
Broad-spectrum efficacy against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
Rapid bactericidal activity for quick symptom relief
Convenient once-daily oral dosing for outpatient therapy
Suitable for serious or complicated infections where higher systemic exposure is needed
Reduces risk of infection progression and complications
Use cautiously in patients with kidney or liver disease
Avoid excessive sun exposure, as fluoroquinolones may cause photosensitivity
Not recommended for children, pregnant, or breastfeeding women unless prescribed
Inform your doctor about other medications, particularly antacids, iron supplements, or multivitamins, which may interfere with absorption
Monitor for tendon pain or swelling, as fluoroquinolones can rarely cause tendonitis or tendon rupture, especially in elderly patients
Common side effects may include:
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
Headache or dizziness
Abdominal discomfort
Mild fatigue
Rare but serious side effects:
Tendon rupture or tendinitis
Peripheral neuropathy (numbness or tingling)
Severe allergic reactions
Heart rhythm abnormalities (QT prolongation)
Seek immediate medical attention if severe symptoms, tendon pain, or neurological signs occur.
