Logibac 400 mg contains Ceftibuten, a third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for the treatment of mild-to-moderate bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. It is highly effective against a broad range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including beta-lactamase–producing strains, making it a reliable option in community-acquired infections.
Ceftibuten is chemically stable against many beta-lactamases, allowing it to retain activity against organisms resistant to certain penicillins and other cephalosporins. Logibac 400 mg provides convenient once-daily dosing for most indications, improving patient compliance.

Third-generation Cephalosporin Antibiotic
Logibac 400 mg is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms in the following conditions:
Acute Bacterial Exacerbations of Chronic Bronchitis
Caused by Haemophilus influenzae (including β-lactamase–producing strains), Moraxella catarrhalis (including β-lactamase–producing strains), and penicillin-susceptible Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Acute Bacterial Otitis Media
Caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Streptococcus pyogenes.
Pharyngitis and Tonsillitis
Caused by Streptococcus pyogenes.
Acute Bacterial Sinusitis
Community-Acquired Pneumonia (when oral therapy is appropriate)
Complicated and Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections
Ceftibuten exerts its bactericidal action by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to essential penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) within the bacterial cell wall, leading to:
Disruption of cell wall formation
Structural instability
Bacterial cell death
Its resistance to many beta-lactamases enhances its effectiveness against resistant strains.
Adults:
400 mg once daily for most infections (7–10 days depending on condition).
Community-acquired pneumonia: 200 mg every 12 hours for 7–14 days.
Streptococcal infections should be treated for at least 10 days.
Children (>6 months):
9 mg/kg/day (maximum 400 mg daily) as a single daily dose.
May be divided into two doses (4.5 mg/kg every 12 hours) for acute bacterial enteritis.
Children >45 kg or >10 years may receive the adult dose.
Capsules may be taken without regard to meals. Suspension should be taken 1–2 hours before or after meals and shaken well before use.
Theophylline and antacids: No significant interaction.
Ranitidine: May increase Cmax and AUC of ceftibuten.
Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics.
Common adverse effects include:
Nausea
Diarrhea
Headache
Dyspepsia
Abdominal pain
Vomiting
Dizziness
Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.
Use cautiously in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, especially colitis.
Dose adjustment is required in patients with renal impairment.
Monitor patients carefully during therapy.
Pregnancy Category B: Use only if clearly needed.
Considered acceptable during breastfeeding; low levels are detected in breast milk and are unlikely to harm the infant.
Overdose symptoms may include seizures. Management is supportive and symptomatic.
Store below 25°C.
Protect from light and moisture.
Reconstituted suspension should be stored at 2–8°C and used within 14 days.
Keep out of reach of children.
Not established in infants <6 months.
Dose adjustment required in renal impairment (creatinine clearance <50 mL/min).
Hemodialysis patients may receive 400 mg at the end of each dialysis session.
Logibac 400 mg provides effective, once-daily oral antibiotic therapy for respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and other susceptible bacterial infections, offering convenience and reliable antimicrobial coverage.
