Pradaxa Capsule 110 mg contains Dabigatran Etexilate Mesylate, a direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) used to prevent and treat blood clots. It belongs to the class of direct thrombin inhibitors and is widely prescribed to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism, particularly in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.
Unlike traditional anticoagulants such as warfarin, dabigatran provides a more predictable anticoagulant effect and generally does not require routine INR monitoring. It is administered orally and is suitable for long-term therapy under medical supervision.

Pradaxa 110 mg is indicated for:
Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation
Treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
Treatment of pulmonary embolism (PE)
Prevention of recurrent DVT and PE
Prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) after hip or knee replacement surgery.
The dose is determined by the physician based on indication, age, kidney function, and bleeding risk.
Capsules should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water.
Do not chew, crush, or open the capsule, as this increases bleeding risk.
Can be taken with or without food.
Dose adjustment may be required in elderly patients or those with renal impairment.
If a dose is missed, it may be taken as soon as remembered unless it is close to the next scheduled dose. Do not double doses.
Dabigatran etexilate is a prodrug that is converted in the body to active dabigatran. It directly inhibits thrombin (Factor IIa), an essential enzyme in the clotting cascade. By blocking thrombin, it prevents the conversion of fibrinogen into fibrin, thereby reducing clot formation and growth.
Predictable anticoagulant response
No routine coagulation monitoring required in most patients
Rapid onset and offset of action
Fewer food interactions compared to warfarin
Active pathological bleeding
Severe renal impairment (depending on indication)
Mechanical prosthetic heart valves
Known hypersensitivity to dabigatran
Increased risk of bleeding
Caution in elderly patients
Kidney function should be assessed before and during treatment
Inform healthcare providers before surgery or invasive procedures
Dyspepsia (indigestion)
Abdominal discomfort
Bruising
Increased risk of bleeding
Seek immediate medical attention if experiencing signs of serious bleeding such as blood in urine, black stools, severe headache, or prolonged bleeding.
