Pradaxa Capsule 150 mg contains Dabigatran Etexilate Mesylate, a direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) that works as a direct thrombin inhibitor. It is used to prevent and treat blood clots and to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.

Dabigatran offers a predictable anticoagulant effect and typically does not require routine INR monitoring like warfarin. It is widely prescribed for long-term anticoagulation under medical supervision.

Indications

Pradaxa 150 mg is indicated for:

• Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation

• Treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

• Treatment of pulmonary embolism (PE)

• Prevention of recurrent DVT and PE

• Prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) after hip or knee replacement surgery

The 150 mg strength is often prescribed for patients at higher risk of thromboembolic events when clinically appropriate.

Dosage and Administration

• The usual adult dose depends on the indication and patient profile.

• Capsules must be swallowed whole with water.

• Do not chew, crush, or open the capsule.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Dose adjustment may be required in elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function.

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered unless it is close to the next dose. Do not double the dose.

Mechanism of Action

Dabigatran etexilate is a prodrug that converts to active dabigatran in the body. It directly inhibits thrombin (Factor IIa), preventing the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin. By blocking thrombin activity, it reduces clot formation and limits clot growth.
