Taxedol Injection 20 mg/vial contains Docetaxel Trihydrate, a potent antineoplastic agent belonging to the taxane group of chemotherapy drugs. It is widely used in the management of various solid tumors and plays a significant role in modern cancer treatment protocols. Taxedol Injection is formulated for intravenous administration and is used either as monotherapy or in combination with other anticancer agents, depending on the type and stage of cancer.
Docetaxel works by interfering with the normal function of microtubules during cell division. By stabilizing microtubules and preventing their depolymerization, it inhibits mitosis and leads to cancer cell death. Due to its targeted mechanism of action, Taxedol Injection helps slow tumor progression and improve clinical outcomes in several malignancies.

Taxedol Injection 20 mg/vial is indicated for the treatment of the following cancers:
Breast cancer (locally advanced or metastatic)
Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)
Prostate cancer (usually hormone-refractory or metastatic)
Gastric adenocarcinoma
Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma
It may be used alone or in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents as per established oncology treatment guidelines.

Taxanes
Docetaxel Trihydrate promotes the assembly of tubulin into stable microtubules and inhibits their disassembly. This action disrupts the microtubular network essential for mitotic and interphase cellular functions. As a result, cells are arrested in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle, leading to apoptosis. Docetaxel has a higher affinity for microtubules compared to some other taxanes, contributing to its strong antitumor activity.
The drug is extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by the cytochrome P450 system, and excreted mainly through the biliary route.
Taxedol Injection is administered intravenously under the supervision of an experienced oncologist.
Dosage depends on the type of cancer, body surface area, combination regimen, and patient condition.
Premedication with corticosteroids is commonly recommended to reduce the risk of hypersensitivity reactions and fluid retention.
Administration should be performed in a specialized healthcare setting.
Taxedol Injection is contraindicated in patients with:
Known hypersensitivity to Docetaxel or any formulation components
Severe neutropenia
Severe hepatic impairment
Commonly reported side effects may include:
Neutropenia and anemia
Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
Alopecia
Fatigue and weakness
Peripheral neuropathy
Fluid retention
Hypersensitivity reactions
The severity and frequency of adverse effects depend on dosage and combination therapy.
Pregnancy: Docetaxel can cause fetal harm. It is contraindicated during pregnancy unless clearly necessary. Effective contraception is advised during treatment.
Lactation: Breastfeeding should be discontinued during treatment due to the potential risk to the infant.
There is no known specific antidote for Docetaxel overdose. Overdose may result in severe bone marrow suppression, mucositis, and gastrointestinal toxicity. Management is supportive and symptomatic, with close monitoring in a hospital setting.
Hepatic impairment: Use with caution and dose adjustment may be required.
Elderly patients: Careful monitoring is recommended due to increased risk of adverse effects.
Pediatric use: Safety and efficacy have not been established.
