Pharmacology

Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist that induces vasoconstriction in ocular blood vessels. By narrowing the superficial conjunctival vessels, the drug reduces redness and visible irritation while maintaining normal ocular function.

Mechanism of Action:

• Binds to alpha-adrenergic receptors on vascular smooth muscle in the conjunctiva

• Activates vasoconstriction, decreasing blood flow to dilated vessels

• Results in visible reduction of eye redness within minutes of application

Pharmacokinetics:

• Primarily acts locally on ocular tissues

Dosage and Administration

• Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) up to 4 times daily, or as recommended by a physician
