Viscocid Suspension acts through a unique raft-forming mechanism. Sodium alginate reacts with gastric acid to form a viscous gel or “raft” that floats on the surface of stomach contents. Potassium bicarbonate releases carbon dioxide in the acidic environment of the stomach, which becomes trapped within the alginate gel, allowing it to float. This floating raft acts as a physical barrier, preventing gastric acid from refluxing into the esophagus.
Unlike conventional antacids that neutralize stomach acid, Viscocid Suspension mainly works by mechanical protection, making it particularly effective in relieving symptoms associated with acid reflux without significantly altering gastric acidity.

Viscocid Suspension is contraindicated in patients with:
Known hypersensitivity to sodium alginate, potassium bicarbonate, or any excipients
Conditions requiring strict sodium or potassium restriction, unless advised by a physician
Viscocid Suspension is generally well tolerated. However, rarely reported side effects may include:
Mild bloating
Nausea
Flatulence
These effects are usually transient and resolve without intervention.
Viscocid Suspension is considered safe for use during pregnancy and lactation when used at recommended doses. However, it should always be used under medical advice during pregnancy.
Use with caution in patients with renal impairment or electrolyte imbalance
Patients on a low-sodium or low-potassium diet should consult a physician before use
Prolonged use without medical supervision is not recommended
Accidental overdose is unlikely. Excessive intake may lead to gastrointestinal discomfort or electrolyte imbalance. Symptomatic treatment is recommended.
Store in a cool and dry place below 30°C. Protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
