Typical Antipsychotic – Thioxanthene Derivative
Zentixol D Injection is indicated for:
Schizophrenia and other chronic psychotic disorders
Patients with schizophrenia who are non-compliant or intolerant to oral antipsychotic therapy
Agitated or violent psychotic patients requiring rapid and sustained symptom control
By providing steady plasma levels, Zentixol D helps in preventing relapse and maintaining symptom control over extended periods.
Zuclopenthixol is a thioxanthene derivative and a typical antipsychotic. Its primary therapeutic effect is achieved through antagonism of dopamine D1 and D2 receptors in the brain. Blockade of these receptors reduces psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and agitation. Zentixol D also exhibits antagonistic activity at α1-adrenergic, histamine H1, and muscarinic cholinergic receptors, which contributes to its sedative and anti-agitation effects.
The depot formulation ensures slow release of Zuclopenthixol into the bloodstream, allowing for prolonged action and minimizing peak-related side effects.
Zentixol D Injection is administered intramuscularly by a trained healthcare professional.
The usual starting dose for adults: 200 mg every 2–4 weeks, depending on clinical response and prior antipsychotic treatment.
Dosage should be individualized based on patient response, severity of symptoms, and previous antipsychotic exposure.
For maintenance therapy, injection intervals may be extended to 4 weeks if stable.
Not recommended for pediatric use; caution advised in elderly patients.
Important: Always rotate injection sites to minimize local irritation and monitor for injection site reactions.
