Ziditam Injection is a combination antibiotic therapy containing Ceftazidime 2 gm and Avibactam 0.5 gm per vial. It is a broad-spectrum injectable antibiotic used for the treatment of serious Gram-negative bacterial infections, including infections caused by multi-drug resistant organisms. The combination of a third-generation cephalosporin (Ceftazidime) with a non-β-lactam β-lactamase inhibitor (Avibactam) enhances its activity against β-lactamase producing bacteria, including Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Injectable Antibiotic
Third-Generation Cephalosporin + β-Lactamase Inhibitor
Ceftazidime is a β-lactam antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), interfering with the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis, which results in bacterial cell lysis and death.
Avibactam is a non-β-lactam β-lactamase inhibitor that protects Ceftazidime from enzymatic degradation by class A, C, and some class D β-lactamases. Avibactam restores and extends the activity of Ceftazidime against resistant Gram-negative bacteria, including those producing extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) and KPC enzymes.
Together, the combination offers enhanced efficacy against complicated infections where standard cephalosporins may fail.
Ziditam Injection is indicated for the treatment of:
Complicated urinary tract infections (cUTIs), including pyelonephritis
Complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAIs), in combination with appropriate agents for anaerobic coverage
Hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP)
Other serious infections caused by susceptible Gram-negative bacteria, particularly multidrug-resistant strains
Administered intravenously (IV) over 2 hours after reconstitution and dilution
Adults: Typical dose is 2.5 gm (2 gm Ceftazidime + 0.5 gm Avibactam) every 8 hours, adjusted based on renal function
Renal Impairment: Dose adjustment is necessary in patients with creatinine clearance <50 mL/min
Treatment duration varies depending on infection type, severity, and clinical response, generally 5–14 days
Known hypersensitivity to Ceftazidime, Avibactam, or other β-lactam antibiotics
Common side effects may include:
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
Headache
Local reactions at the injection site (pain, inflammation)
Rash or pruritus
Serious but rare adverse effects:
Hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis
Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea
Neutropenia or thrombocytopenia in prolonged use
Monitor renal and hepatic function during prolonged therapy
Use with caution in patients with a history of allergic reactions to β-lactam antibiotics
Discontinue therapy if severe hypersensitivity or Clostridium difficile infection occurs
Not recommended for viral infections or non-bacterial illnesses
Pregnancy: Use only if clearly needed and benefits outweigh risks
Lactation: Excreted in breast milk in small amounts; consult a physician before use
Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture
Reconstituted solution should be used immediately or stored as recommended by the manufacturer
Keep out of reach of children.
