Arlin 100 ml is a synthetic antibacterial agent from the oxazolidinone class of antibiotics, designed to treat serious infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, including drug-resistant strains. It is highly effective against Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and multi-drug resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae. Arlin works by selectively inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, preventing formation of the 70S initiation complex essential for bacterial growth, making it bacteriostatic for enterococci and staphylococci, and bactericidal for most streptococcal strains.

Oxazolidinone / Macrolide Antibiotic
Arlin 100 ml is indicated for the treatment of:
Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE) infections, including concurrent bacteremia
Nosocomial pneumonia caused by Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA and MRSA) or Streptococcus pneumoniae, including multidrug-resistant strains
Complicated skin and skin structure infections, including diabetic foot infections (excluding osteomyelitis)
Uncomplicated skin infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) or Streptococcus pyogenes
Community-acquired pneumonia, including cases with concurrent bacteremia
Combination therapy may be clinically indicated if Gram-negative pathogens are suspected.
Arlin 100 ml binds to the 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S bacterial subunit, inhibiting formation of the 70S initiation complex. This prevents bacterial protein synthesis, leading to inhibition of bacterial growth or death. Its mechanism differs from other antibiotics, making it effective against resistant Gram-positive pathogens.
Bacteriostatic: Enterococci and staphylococci
Bactericidal: Most streptococci
Adults and Adolescents (≥12 years):
Complicated infections & community-acquired pneumonia: 600 mg IV or oral twice daily for 10–14 days
Nosocomial pneumonia & VRE infections: 600 mg IV or oral twice daily for 14–28 days
Uncomplicated skin infections: 400–600 mg oral twice daily for 10–14 days
Pediatric Patients (Birth–11 years):
IV or oral t.i.d: 10 mg/kg, adjusted by age and infection type
Neonates (<7 days): 10 mg/kg every 12 hours; may increase to every 8 hours if clinically indicated
Administration:
Oral Suspension: Reconstitute with boiled and cooled water, shake well before use, store in a cool, dry place, use within 21 days
IV Infusion: Administer over 30–120 minutes; do not use in series connections; inspect for particulate matter before use
Hypersensitivity to Arlin or any formulation components
Concomitant use with MAO inhibitors or within 2 weeks of use
Patients with uncontrolled hypertension, thyrotoxicosis, pheochromocytoma, carcinoid syndrome, or taking certain adrenergic, serotonergic, or dopaminergic agents
Common: Diarrhea, headache, nausea
Others: Oral/vaginal moniliasis, hypertension, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, pruritus, tongue discoloration
Rare: Serotonin syndrome (with concomitant serotonergic agents), convulsions, visual disturbances
Monitor for serotonin syndrome when combined with serotonergic drugs
Evaluate promptly if visual changes or convulsions occur
Patients with persistent nausea, vomiting, or metabolic abnormalities should be medically assessed
Pregnancy Category C: Use only if benefits outweigh risks
Unknown excretion in breast milk; exercise caution when administering to nursing mothers
