Axodin Tablet 180 mg is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in adults and children aged 12 years and above. It effectively manages sneezing, rhinorrhea (runny nose), lacrimation (watery eyes), nasal itching, itchy palate and throat, as well as itchy and red eyes. By controlling these symptoms, fexofenadine significantly improves daily functioning, work or activity productivity, and overall health-related quality of life.
Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria
Axodin 180 mg is also recommended for the treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria (chronic hives) in adults and children aged 12 years and older. It markedly reduces the number of wheals and relieves pruritus, helping patients achieve better symptom control and improved quality of life.

Non-sedating antihistamines
Axodin Tablet 180 mg contains Fexofenadine Hydrochloride, a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. After oral administration, it is rapidly absorbed, reaching peak plasma concentrations within 2 to 3 hours. Fexofenadine does not significantly cross the blood-brain barrier, which explains its minimal sedative effects compared to older antihistamines.

Fexofenadine does not undergo hepatic biotransformation, reducing the likelihood of liver-mediated drug interactions. Co-administration with erythromycin or ketoconazole may increase plasma fexofenadine levels by two to three times, without clinically significant effects on the QT interval or adverse reactions. No interaction has been observed with omeprazole. However, antacids containing aluminum or magnesium hydroxide can reduce fexofenadine absorption; a minimum two-hour interval between dosing is recommended.
Axodin Tablet 180 mg is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to fexofenadine or any of its components.
Commonly reported adverse effects include headache, fatigue, dizziness, and nausea, with incidence similar to placebo. Rare post-marketing reactions include hypersensitivity reactions (such as angioedema and anaphylaxis), palpitations, tachycardia, sleep disturbances, diarrhea, and skin reactions including rash, urticaria, and pruritus.

Axodin 180 mg is classified as Pregnancy Category C by the US FDA. Its use during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended unless the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus or infant.
Caution is advised in elderly patients and those with renal impairment. Patients with a history of cardiovascular disease should be informed about the rare risk of tachycardia and palpitations. Although fexofenadine is unlikely to impair alertness, individual response should be assessed before driving or operating machinery.
Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, and fatigue. Supportive and symptomatic treatment is recommended. Hemodialysis is not effective in removing fexofenadine from the bloodstream.
Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and light. Keep out of reach of children.
Fexofenadine acts as an inverse agonist at H1 histamine receptors, preventing histamine-mediated allergic responses such as pruritus, rhinorrhea, and watery eyes. Due to its inability to cross the blood-brain barrier, it has minimal effects on the central nervous system.
