Azomid Suspension 1% contains Brinzolamide, a topical ophthalmic carbonic anhydrase inhibitor used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension. By effectively lowering intraocular pressure, Azomid Suspension 1% helps prevent progressive optic nerve damage and visual field loss, which are major risks associated with untreated glaucoma.
This sterile ophthalmic suspension is designed for local use in the eye and provides targeted action with minimal systemic absorption, making it suitable for long-term management of eye pressure-related disorders.

Brinzolamide 1% w/v
Carbonic anhydrase inhibitor (ophthalmic)
Azomid Suspension 1% is indicated for:
Open-angle glaucoma
Ocular hypertension
Reduction of elevated intraocular pressure
Use as monotherapy or as adjunctive therapy with other intraocular pressure–lowering agents such as beta-blockers
Brinzolamide is a highly specific inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase II, an enzyme found in the ciliary processes of the eye. Carbonic anhydrase plays a key role in the formation of aqueous humor. Inhibition of this enzyme leads to decreased bicarbonate ion formation, resulting in reduced sodium and fluid transport. This ultimately lowers aqueous humor secretion and reduces intraocular pressure.
After topical ocular administration, Brinzolamide accumulates in red blood cells due to its affinity for carbonic anhydrase. Systemic exposure is minimal, and its action remains largely localized to ocular tissues, contributing to its favorable safety profile during long-term use.
Azomid Suspension 1% is intended for ophthalmic use only.
Adults and elderly: One drop in the affected eye(s) two to three times daily, or as directed by a physician
Before use, the bottle should be shaken well to ensure uniform suspension. If more than one ophthalmic product is being used, an interval of at least 5–10 minutes should be allowed between applications.
Azomid Suspension 1% is contraindicated in patients with:
Known hypersensitivity to Brinzolamide or any component of the formulation
Severe renal impairment
Commonly reported side effects include:
Blurred vision (temporary)
Eye discomfort or irritation
Bitter or unusual taste
Dry eyes
Conjunctival hyperemia
Less common reactions may include headache, nausea, or eye discharge. Most adverse effects are mild and transient.

Caution should be exercised in patients with:
Renal or hepatic impairment
Corneal endothelial disorders
History of sulfonamide hypersensitivity
The suspension may cause temporary blurred vision; patients should avoid driving or operating machinery until vision is clear. Contact lenses should be removed prior to instillation and may be reinserted after at least 15 minutes.
Azomid Suspension 1% should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Caution is advised during lactation, and use should be based on medical judgment considering maternal need.
Store below 30°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
Brinzolamide reduces intraocular pressure by inhibiting carbonic anhydrase II in the eye, leading to decreased aqueous humor production. This action helps maintain normal eye pressure and reduces the risk of glaucoma-related optic nerve damage.
