Indications

Fosamin Powder 3 gm/sachet is indicated for the treatment of:

• Acute uncomplicated urinary tract infections, particularly acute cystitis

• UTIs caused by susceptible organisms such as Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, and other common uropathogens

• Urinary infections in adult women where single-dose antibiotic therapy is appropriate

It may also be used in selected cases for prophylaxis during urological procedures, as advised by a physician.

Pharmacology

Fosfomycin exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis at an early stage. It blocks the enzyme enolpyruvyl transferase, which is essential for the formation of the bacterial cell wall.
