Fucimax 250 mg Tablet is an oral antibacterial medicine containing Fusidic Acid, a narrow-spectrum antibiotic primarily effective against Gram-positive bacteria, especially Staphylococcus species. It is widely used in the treatment of serious and resistant staphylococcal infections where other antibiotics may be ineffective. Fucimax 250 mg is suitable for both systemic and localized infections when caused by susceptible organisms.

Indications

Fucimax 250 mg is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by fusidic acid–sensitive organisms, particularly Staphylococcus aureus, including:

• Osteomyelitis

• Septicaemia

• Endocarditis

• Pneumonia

• Superinfected cystic fibrosis

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Surgical wound infections

• Traumatic wound infections

It is especially valuable in managing severe staphylococcal infections requiring targeted antibacterial therapy.

Pharmacology

Fusidic acid exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It interferes with the translocation process by blocking the transfer of amino acids from aminoacyl-tRNA to the growing peptide chain on bacterial ribosomes. This action prevents bacterial growth and replication, leading to effective control of susceptible infections.

Dosage and Administration

Adults:

• General infections: 250–500 mg every 8 hours

• Skin and soft tissue infections: 250 mg twice daily

Dosage should be adjusted according to the severity of infection and the patient’s clinical condition, as advised by a healthcare professional.

Drug Interactions

Fucimax 250 mg may interact with drugs metabolized by CYP450 isoenzymes. Concomitant use with such medications should be carefully monitored to avoid potential adverse effects or altered drug levels.

Contraindications

• Known hypersensitivity to fusidic acid or any component of the formulation

Side Effects

Commonly reported side effects include:

Precautions and Warnings

• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment, biliary obstruction, or liver disease

• Liver function should be monitored periodically during high-dose or prolonged oral therapy

• Avoid use in premature, jaundiced, acidotic, or seriously ill neonates
