Ingovax ACWY is a conjugate meningococcal vaccine designed to protect against invasive meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, W, and Y. These bacteria are responsible for serious infections such as meningitis (inflammation of the brain and spinal cord membranes) and septicemia (blood poisoning), which can rapidly become life-threatening. Meningococcal infections can affect all age groups but are particularly serious in infants, adolescents, and young adults. Vaccination is the most effective preventive measure to reduce the incidence and severity of these infections.

Composition:
Each 0.5 ml dose of Ingovax ACWY contains 50 micrograms of meningococcal polysaccharides conjugated to a carrier protein (usually tetanus toxoid). The conjugation enhances the immune response, providing longer-lasting protection compared to plain polysaccharide vaccines. The vaccine is supplied as a sterile, ready-to-use suspension for intramuscular injection.
Therapeutic Class:
Vaccine
Immunological Agent
Mechanism of Action:
Ingovax ACWY works by stimulating the immune system to produce specific antibodies against Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, W, and Y. The conjugation of the polysaccharide to a protein carrier converts the antigen into a T-cell dependent form, which enhances immunological memory. Upon subsequent exposure to the bacteria, the immune system can recognize and rapidly respond, preventing infection or significantly reducing its severity. The vaccine does not contain live bacteria, so it cannot cause meningococcal disease.
Indications:
Ingovax ACWY is indicated for:
Active immunization against invasive meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, W, and Y.
Protection for children, adolescents, and adults at increased risk of meningococcal infections, including those with immune deficiencies, anatomical or functional asplenia, or travel to endemic regions.
Pre-exposure prophylaxis in outbreak situations or mass vaccination campaigns.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults and Children (≥2 years): A single 0.5 ml intramuscular injection is recommended.
Children 6 months to 2 years: Depending on local guidelines, two doses may be required for adequate protection, administered at an interval of at least 8 weeks.
The injection is usually given in the deltoid muscle for older children and adults, or in the anterolateral thigh for infants.
The vaccine should not be mixed with other vaccines in the same syringe.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine, including polysaccharides or the carrier protein.
Acute severe febrile illness – vaccination should be postponed until recovery.
Side Effects:
Common side effects are generally mild and temporary, including:
Pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site
Low-grade fever
Irritability or fussiness in children
Fatigue, headache, or mild muscle pain
Rare but serious adverse events may include severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), which require immediate medical attention.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor individuals with a history of severe allergic reactions to vaccines.
Use with caution in patients with moderate or severe acute illness.
Immunocompromised individuals may have a reduced response to the vaccine.
The vaccine does not protect against meningococcal serogroups not included in the formulation or against other causes of meningitis.
Storage Conditions:
Store between 2°C and 8°C.
Do not freeze.
Protect from light and heat.
Keep out of reach of children.
