Liptor EZ Tablet 10 mg + 10 mg is a combination oral medication containing Atorvastatin Calcium (10 mg) and Ezetimibe (10 mg), designed to manage high cholesterol and mixed dyslipidemia effectively. This dual therapy combines two complementary mechanisms to target elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides, while modestly increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.
Atorvastatin, a statin, inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the key enzyme responsible for cholesterol synthesis in the liver, leading to reduced LDL and total cholesterol levels. Ezetimibe, on the other hand, selectively blocks the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and related phytosterols. By combining these two agents, Liptor EZ achieves enhanced lipid-lowering effects compared to either component alone.
This combination is particularly beneficial for patients who are at high risk of cardiovascular disease, including those with atherosclerosis, diabetes, or a history of heart attacks, and for patients who do not reach target lipid levels with statin monotherapy.

HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitor (Statin) + Cholesterol Absorption Inhibitor
Liptor EZ Tablet 10 mg + 10 mg is indicated for:
Primary hypercholesterolemia (Type IIa) and mixed dyslipidemia (Type IIb)
Familial hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous) as an adjunct to diet and lifestyle changes
Patients inadequately controlled on statin therapy alone
Reduction of LDL cholesterol in adults at high cardiovascular risk
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease prevention, including myocardial infarction and stroke risk reduction
The medication should be used in combination with a cholesterol-lowering diet, exercise, and other lifestyle interventions for optimal outcomes.
Atorvastatin:
Inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, reducing cholesterol synthesis in the liver
Lowers plasma LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol
Reduces triglycerides and modestly increases HDL cholesterol
Stabilizes atherosclerotic plaques and provides anti-inflammatory benefits
Ezetimibe:
Selectively inhibits intestinal absorption of cholesterol at the brush border of the small intestine
Reduces cholesterol delivery to the liver, promoting LDL receptor upregulation
Complements the action of statins for greater LDL reduction
Combination Effect:
Greater reduction in LDL cholesterol than either drug alone
Reduces total cholesterol, Apo B, and triglycerides
Improves cardiovascular risk profile while maintaining safety
Adults: 1 tablet once daily, with or without food
Usually combined with a low-cholesterol diet
Dose may be adjusted according to lipid profile and therapeutic response
Periodic monitoring of lipid levels and liver function is recommended
Monitor liver function tests periodically
Use caution in patients with active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of liver enzymes
Report muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, which may indicate myopathy or rhabdomyolysis
Avoid concurrent use with certain drugs that increase the risk of statin-induced myopathy
Common: headache, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, nausea
Musculoskeletal: myalgia, mild muscle weakness
Rare: myopathy, rhabdomyolysis
Liver enzyme elevation may occur; periodic monitoring advised
Hypersensitivity to atorvastatin, ezetimibe, or any component of the formulation
Active liver disease or unexplained persistent liver enzyme elevation
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors or drugs that increase myopathy risk
Pregnancy Category X: contraindicated due to potential fetal harm
Not recommended during breastfeeding
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
