Lomequin 0.3% is a potent ophthalmic antibacterial preparation used to treat a variety of bacterial eye infections, including conjunctivitis, blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, and Staphylococcus aureus–induced corneal ulcers. Its active ingredient belongs to the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics, making it highly effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria that are susceptible to this agent.
This eye drop works by inhibiting bacterial DNA replication and repair mechanisms, leading to rapid bacterial death and resolution of eye infections. Lomequin 0.3% is widely used for its safety, efficacy, and low systemic toxicity, making it suitable for adults and children over 1 year of age.

Lomequin 0.3% is a difluorinated quinolone derivative that targets bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II). By forming a stable complex with the gyrase enzyme, Lomequin interferes with critical DNA processes including:
Replication initiation, elongation, and termination
Transcription and DNA repair
Recombination, transposition, and supercoiling
This inhibition leads to rapid killing of susceptible bacteria. The drug demonstrates broad-spectrum activity against gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens causing ocular infections. Cross-resistance has only been reported with other quinolones, not with antibiotics from other classes.
Lomequin 0.3% ophthalmic solution is indicated for:
Bacterial conjunctivitis
Blepharitis and blepharoconjunctivitis
Corneal ulcers caused by Staphylococcus aureus
Eye infections due to Lomequin-susceptible bacteria
Adults and children (above 1 year):
Instill 1 drop into the lower conjunctival sac 2–3 times daily
At the start of treatment, apply 5 drops within 20 minutes or 1 drop every hour for 6–10 hours
Duration: 7–9 days, or as prescribed
Lomequin may be used with or without food
Avoid using ophthalmic preparations containing heavy metals, like zinc, within 15 minutes before or after Lomequin
Bacteriostatic ophthalmic antibiotics should not be used concomitantly
Hypersensitivity to Lomequin, quinolones, or any excipients
Prolonged antibiotic use may promote secondary fungal infections or growth of non-susceptible bacteria
Mild burning or stinging immediately after instillation (4.7% of users)
Potential for photosensitization, though phototoxicity has not been reported for ophthalmic use
Rare systemic allergic reactions (from systemic use) may include:
Asthma, dyspnea, urticaria, erythema, pruritus, hypersensitivity
Animal studies show placental transfer and excretion in maternal milk after systemic use
Human data are limited; use only if benefits outweigh potential risks to the fetus or infant
Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight or UV light during treatment
Monitor for signs of allergic reactions
Accidental oral ingestion poses minimal risk due to the small dose in each eye drop (15 mg per 5 ml bottle)
Store at 15–25°C, protected from light
Keep out of reach of children
Lomequin 0.3% rapidly kills susceptible bacteria by inhibiting DNA gyrase, blocking essential DNA-related processes, and disrupting bacterial replication and repair. Its broad-spectrum antibacterial activity makes it effective for common ocular infections caused by both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
