Losart Plus 100 mg + 25 mg is a fixed-dose combination of Losartan Potassium, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and Hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic. This dual-action formulation is used for the effective management of hypertension (high blood pressure), particularly in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy.
By combining two complementary mechanisms, Losart Plus helps achieve better blood pressure reduction, lowers cardiovascular risk, and provides improved long-term control compared to either agent alone.

Losart Plus is indicated for:
Treatment of essential hypertension
Patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by Losartan or Hydrochlorothiazide alone
Reduction of cardiovascular risk in hypertensive patients when appropriate
Angiotensin-II Receptor Blocker (ARB)
Thiazide Diuretic
Combination Antihypertensive
Losartan Potassium selectively blocks the AT1 receptor, preventing the action of angiotensin II. This leads to:
Vasodilation
Reduced aldosterone secretion
Decreased sodium and water retention
Lowered blood pressure
Hydrochlorothiazide acts on the distal renal tubules to increase excretion of sodium and water. This results in:
Reduced plasma volume
Decreased cardiac output
Sustained blood pressure control
Together, these two agents provide additive antihypertensive effects and improved therapeutic outcomes.
Usual recommended dose: One tablet once daily
May be taken with or without food
Dose adjustment should be based on blood pressure response
Not recommended as initial therapy in severely volume-depleted patients
Patients should follow their physician’s advice and maintain regular blood pressure monitoring.
Hypersensitivity to Losartan, Hydrochlorothiazide, or sulfonamide-derived drugs
Pregnancy
Severe renal impairment or anuria
Concomitant use with Aliskiren in diabetic patients
Losart Plus is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects include:
Dizziness
Hypotension
Electrolyte imbalance (low potassium or sodium)
Fatigue
Headache
Increased urination
Rare but serious effects may include renal dysfunction or allergic reactions.
Monitor renal function and electrolytes regularly
Use cautiously in patients with hepatic or renal impairment
Risk of symptomatic hypotension in volume-depleted individuals
Avoid use during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy
Monitor potassium levels, especially when used with potassium supplements
Losart Plus is contraindicated during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters due to risk of fetal injury or death.
It is unknown whether Losartan is excreted in human milk; caution is advised during breastfeeding.
Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Enhanced blood pressure reduction
Improved compliance (single tablet regimen)
Complementary mechanisms of action
Reduced cardiovascular complications
