Lubric Gel 2% is a viscoelastic ophthalmic gel designed for use during intraocular surgical procedures, particularly those involving the anterior chamber of the eye, such as cataract extraction and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. It provides mechanical protection to ocular tissues, maintains chamber depth, and facilitates safer and more precise surgical manipulation.

Drugs for Dry Eyes / Ophthalmic Surgical Aids
Lubric Gel 2% is a non-pyrogenic viscoelastic solution primarily composed of Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC). Its viscoelastic properties allow it to:
Maintain the depth of the anterior chamber throughout surgery
Protect delicate ocular tissues such as the corneal endothelium and intraocular structures
Facilitate smooth manipulation of surgical instruments and prevent trauma
Push back the vitreous face, reducing the risk of postoperative flat chamber formation
The gel acts as a space-occupying, tissue-protective agent rather than having a systemic pharmacological effect.
Lubric Gel 2% is indicated as a surgical aid for:
Cataract surgery – extraction of the lens and IOL implantation
Anterior segment procedures where maintenance of chamber depth and tissue protection is required
Situations requiring minimal trauma to the corneal endothelium
Facilitation of precise intraocular surgical maneuvers
It is not indicated for chronic topical use and is strictly for intraoperative application.
Each pre-filled syringe is for single intraocular use only.
The quantity injected into the anterior chamber must be adjusted according to the volume of aqueous humor and the anatomical structure to be protected.
The gel should be completely removed at the end of surgery to prevent postoperative complications such as elevated intraocular pressure.
No specific drug interactions have been reported with Lubric Gel 2% when used intraocularly.
There are no known contraindications when Lubric Gel 2% is used as recommended.
Although generally well tolerated, rare complications may include:
Transient increase in intraocular pressure postoperatively
Rare postoperative inflammatory reactions such as iritis or hypopyon
Corneal edema or decompensation in susceptible patients
For intraocular use only
Single-use only
Monitor intraocular pressure postoperatively, particularly in patients with pre-existing glaucoma
Ensure complete removal of the gel from the anterior chamber at the end of surgery
Over-injection may cause mechanical blockage of trabecular outflow, leading to transient intraocular pressure elevation
Pregnancy: No evidence of teratogenicity in humans
Lactation: No reported problems in nursing infants
Store in a cool, dry place away from light
Do not freeze
Keep out of reach of children
Lubric Gel 2% functions as a viscoelastic intraocular medium. It:
Maintains anterior chamber depth, ensuring operative precision
Protects the corneal endothelium and intraocular tissues from mechanical trauma
Displaces the vitreous face, preventing postoperative flat chamber formation
Provides a space-occupying and tissue-protective effect, rather than pharmacological action.
