Rosutin 40 mg Tablet is a high-potency statin used to manage elevated cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. Containing Rosuvastatin Calcium, it belongs to the class of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. By targeting the rate-limiting step in cholesterol synthesis, Rosutin 40 mg effectively lowers low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), reduces total cholesterol and triglycerides, and modestly raises high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). This dual effect helps prevent atherosclerosis, heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular complications, making it essential for patients at high risk of cardiovascular disease.

Rosutin 40 mg Tablet is indicated for:
Heterozygous hypercholesterolemia (familial and non-familial)
Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
Mixed dyslipidemia (Fredrickson Type IIa and IIb)
Primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in patients at high risk due to conditions like diabetes, hypertension, or prior cardiovascular events
Rosutin 40 mg is a selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme responsible for converting HMG-CoA to mevalonate, a precursor of cholesterol. Its lipid-lowering effects occur via:
Enhanced hepatic LDL receptor activity, which increases uptake and breakdown of LDL cholesterol
Reduced VLDL synthesis, which decreases circulating LDL and VLDL particles
By reducing harmful cholesterol levels, Rosutin 40 mg improves lipid profiles, protects arterial walls, and reduces cardiovascular risk.
Adults: 5–40 mg once daily; 40 mg is reserved for patients who do not achieve LDL-C goals with lower doses
Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH): Starting dose 20 mg/day
Pediatric Use:
HeFH (ages 8–10 years): 5–10 mg/day
HeFH (ages 10–17 years): 5–20 mg/day
HoFH (ages 7–17 years): 20 mg/day
Rosutin 40 mg can be taken with or without food, at any time of the day, making it convenient for patients.
Cyclosporine: Use caution; recommended dose ≤10 mg/day
Gemfibrozil: Combination increases risk of muscle toxicity; limit dose to 10 mg/day if used together
Protease inhibitors (lopinavir/ritonavir, atazanavir/ritonavir): Limit dose to 10 mg/day
Coumarin anticoagulants: May prolong INR; frequent monitoring required
Other lipid-lowering agents: Increased risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis
Rosutin 40 mg is contraindicated in patients with:
Hypersensitivity to Rosuvastatin or excipients
Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in hepatic transaminases
Pregnancy and lactation
Common side effects include:
Headache
Myalgia or muscle tenderness
Constipation
Fatigue (asthenia)
Abdominal pain and nausea
Serious but rare side effects include rhabdomyolysis, liver enzyme abnormalities, and severe muscle injury.

Patients should report unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness promptly
Use caution in populations at higher risk of adverse effects
Safety in pregnant women has not been established; contraindicated in pregnancy
