Composition

Each gram contains:

• Mupirocin 20 mg (2% w/w)

Indications

Skinobac Ointment is indicated for:

• Impetigo (a contagious bacterial skin infection)
• Infected cuts, wounds, and abrasions
• Secondary bacterial infections of eczema
• Folliculitis (infection of hair follicles)
• Minor skin infections caused by susceptible bacteria

Mechanism of Action

Mupirocin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to bacterial isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, preventing the incorporation of isoleucine into bacterial proteins. This action stops bacterial growth and leads to the elimination of infection at the local site. Because of its topical action, it has minimal systemic absorption when used as directed.

Dosage & Administration

• Apply a small amount of ointment to the affected area 2 to 3 times daily
• Gently clean and dry the area before application
• May be covered with a sterile dressing if required
• Use for the full prescribed duration even if symptoms improve early
• Avoid excessive use or application on large body surfaces unless advised by a physician

Precautions

• For external use only; avoid contact with eyes, nose, and mouth
• Do not apply to large open wounds or burns unless directed by a doctor
• Discontinue use if severe irritation or allergic reaction occurs
• Prolonged use may lead to development of resistant bacteria
